January will see the first group of students from the Odisee University College in Brussels, Belgium visiting CPUT as part of a staff and student exchange agreement between the two institutions.

Valdiela Daries, a lecturer in the Department of Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Sciences (MITS) recently visited Odisee on a XRElin grant to formalise this agreement. “I met with staff from their international office as well as medical imaging department and had the great privilege of meeting the three students who will start their internship here next year.

“I was greatly impressed with their clinical skills labs and spent a few days working in the radiology department of UZ Brussels, a large university hospital,” Valdiela says of her week-long stay in the Belgian capital.

The final year students from Odisee are expected to work and study alongside their CPUT counterparts for three months starting in January. “Exchange programmes like these enrich a student’s experience and broadens their horizon. That is why I’m actively pursuing opportunities like these and celebrate unreservedly when we are successful in making connections with institutions, their staff and students,” says Aladdin Speelman, Head of MITS.

The plan is for CPUT students from the MITS department to go to Brussels in 2019 provided the funding for such a trip can be found.
