Using Photostory to create digital stories

Presenter: Eunice Ivala and Linda Mkhize, Fundani

Date, time and location: 28/3/2013, 13.30-15.30, Wellington

Description of workshop:

Digital storytelling has entered Higher Education as a means of fostering student engagement, reflective learning, project-based learning and the promotion of digital literacy skills. What makes digital storytelling so compelling, is its potential to be used in various contexts and flexible ways, such as for individual and group projects, for content-based and personal stories, in highly structured and unstructured setups, providing access to resources or relying purely on students’ resourcefulness. Fundani has been supporting lecturers in the integration of digital storytelling across various disciplines since 2010. This workshop will introduce digital storytelling and give an overview of the digital storytelling models developed at CPUT. Participants will then work on their own digital story using Photostory for Windows, a software package freely available on the Internet. A discussion about how participants could use digital storytelling in their own teaching will conclude this session.
