Seminar description:

Difficulties arranging meetings with colleagues from different campuses? Challenges to manage inter-institutional research projects? Needing to teach geographically dispersed students ? Why not try out CPUT’s new online conferencing tools?

CPUT has recently acquired a new web conferencing tool  – Blackboard collaborate, an effective tool for online group teaching and learning. Blackboard Collaborate consist of two components Web Conferencing and Voice Authoring. The Web Conferencing tools allow you to interact via voice, chat and video with remote participants, share presentations and draw notes on a whiteboard. Blackboard Voice Authoring is a suite of applications that allows you to interact with participants by recording and sharing voice content over the Internet.

This seminar will introduce  some of these features and present practical applications of web conferencing and voice authoring in courses at CPUT. We will report on practical experiences with web conferencing in a national research project, where participants met in monthly online meetings to discuss the progress of the project and a cross-institutional course,  where regular online session complimented face to face workshops. Time for hands-on practice with the tools will conclude this session.
