Location: Bellville Campus, CPUT

Theme: Openness in Higher Education – Starting a conversation

Openness is a key concern in recent times in higher education both globally and in South Africa. Experiences such as open access, open educational resources, massive open online courses (MOOCs), etc. are “hot topics”. What is the meaning of “open” in education? Which aspects of education does openness refer to? How does openness lead to major changes in higher education? What are the benefits of openness for the institution, staff and students? Which are the main challenges regarding openness in higher education? Which successful and relevant experiences of use can we identify? This event will serve as a platform to share, inspire, train and engage in discussions around the issue of openness and higher education and showcase some of the most innovative practices and experiences using technologies in teaching and learning at CPUT. Practices and experiences are not limited to openness – please come and share with your colleagues how you’ve innovated your teaching and learning using technology.

The programme of the day will entail keynotes, traditional presentations, Pecha Kucha sessions, a mini ‘unconference’ on digital storytelling and hands-on training workshops.

If you would like to present in any of the above sessions,  please contact Dr Eunice Ivala at ivalae@cput.ac.za or Daniela Gachago at gachagod@cput.ac.za
