Theme: Imagining the Future of Education
How do we imagine the future of education? How would we like the future of education to look like? What solutions can we imagine to counter current challenges we are facing, such as widening access, low throughput rates, lack of transformation, rate of technological change, globalisation, lack of resources, private competition?
Discussions on social media and in academic research on the future of learning emphasize words such as ubiquitous, lifelong, adaptive, pervasive, open, self-directed and interest-driven learning. How do we move towards such learning spaces? Spaces that allow learners the choice of content, delivery mode, time, pace, teacher and institution, creating mix-and-match, just-in-time qualifications, with the potential to respond to the continuously changing needs of the market space? Without compromising quality, depth and embeddedness in the discipline? What would the role of the university be in such scenarios? Will we still need universities? What values would drive our universities? What ethical issues will we be facing? How can we allow for freedom and flexibility without compromising quality and credibility? And what would quality mean in this context? How will technology support these learning spaces?
We invite presentation from colleagues on dreams, visions, fears, but also on initiatives that pave the way to such a future in education. The day will serve as a platform to showcase, share, inspire, train and engage in some of the most innovative thoughts, practices and experiences using technologies in teaching and learning at CPUT. Practices and experiences are not limited to the topics covered in the key notes – please come and share with your colleagues how you’ve innovated in your teaching and learning using technology.
If you would like to present during this event, please request the submission form by email from gachagod@cput.ac.za before Friday, the 19th of September 2015.
