CMC – CubeSat UHF/VHF Transceiver

The CMC and CMCC are compact telemetry and command radio’s designed for CubeSat missions. They are compatible with the CubeSat standard with a CubeSat Kit PC/104 form factor. The transceivers implement full-duplex GMSK uplink and downlink communications. A combination of AFSK and GMSK provides full-duplex communications with data rates of 1200 and 9600 bps respectively. The AFSK does not operate in full-duplex mode exclusively. The CMC and CMCC offer transmit frequencies in the amateur and commercial bands respectively. The transceivers are ideal for space missions where a low data–rate uplink and downlink is required.

The transceivers can also be used as a robust lower data-rate back-up radio for a higher data-rate radio. The AX.25 protocol implemented is popular among amateur radio enthusiasts. A transparent downlink mode is available with a CCSDS compatible ½ rate convolutional encoder.

The precursor to this transceiver was part of the ZACUBE-1 mission, South Africa’s first launched CubeSat. The current generation has gained flight heritage on numerous missions over the years.

UTRX – CubeSat UHF Transceiver

The UTRX and UTRXC are compact telemetry and command radio’s designed for CubeSat missions. They are compatible with the CubeSat standard with a CubeSat Kit PC/104 form factor. The transceivers implement half-duplex GMSK, AFSK uplink and downlink communications at 9600 and 1200 bps respectively on a single RF port. A combination of AFSK and GMSK is configurable for transmit and receive. The UTRX and UTRXC offer transmit frequencies in the amateur and commercial bands respectively.

Flight heritage on ZACube-2, launched in December 2018, and still operational as of July 2020.

STX – S-Band Transmitter

The STX is a compact S-Band Transmitter designed for CubeSat missions. It is compatible with the CubeSat standard, with a CubeSat Kit PC/104 form factor. The STX implements QPSK modulation with transmission data rates of up to 2 Mbps. The transmitter was part of the UKube-1 mission, the UK Space Agency’s first national spacecraft.

The STX is ideal for space missions where a high data-rate downlink is needed. The STX uses an open network encoding scheme based on the IntelSAT IESS-308 specification which makes this product compatible with low-cost commercial receivers.

S-Band Patch Antenna

The S-Band patch antenna can easily be mounted on the nadir facing side of the CubeSat. A wide beamwidth ensures satellite communication from low elevation angles without the need to point the satellite. The antenna exhibits a good input reflection coefficient which allows for efficient radiation of up to 2 W of RF power. The antenna was part of the UKube-1 mission, the UK Space Agency’s first national spacecraft.

XTX – X-Band Transmitter

The XTX is an extremely compact X-Band transmitter designed for CubeSat missions. It is compatible with the CubeSat standard, with a CubeSat Kit PC/104 form factor. The transmitter implements OQPSK and QPSK modulation with transmission data rates of up to 50 Mbps.

The transmitter is ideal for space missions where a high data rate downlink is required. It implements a CCSDS specification which allows this product to be compatible with commercial off-the-shelf satellite demodulators.

A nadir facing X-Band patch antenna is available and is easily incorporated into the CubeSat design. Its small size, low profile, rugged design and high directionality make it an excellent addition to the system.
