Recognising CPUT’s customer service stars

As customer service is one of the key priorities at CPUT, the Learning & Development Department has been piloting the Customer Service Star Awards in the Faculties of Business and Management Sciences as well as Health and Wellness.

The latest recipient of the award is Wellington Campus-based Loretta Adonis, an administrator in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.

She scooped the award for last year’s fourth term.

Adonis says winning the award has encouraged her to continuously work hard and provide excellent service towards everyone she interacts with.

Financial Accounting and Taxation lecturer Colin Jansen Van Rensburg says: “I cannot imagine a more deserving recipient.

“After eight years at CPUT and 25 years in the profession prior to that, I have never encountered anyone as efficient as Loretta.”

“The purpose of the award,” says Carmen Samuels from the Human Capital (HC) Department,“ is to acknowledge and recognize those staff members who strive for excellence in customer service.”

Staff members in the faculty submit nominations to their HC Business Partner who coordinates the initiative within the Faculty, and the Faculty’s Customer Service Committee meets to discuss all the nominations received.

The winner then receives a certificate of acknowledgement.

The award, which is aimed at administrative staff, was introduced by the Human Capital Department in May 2015 after the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Prins Nevhutalu, identified it as a priority project in a bid to improve the quality of the university’s customer services.

The initiative has been well-received by the faculties. As the winner is announced via e-mail to all faculty staff and other staff members would also respond to the e-mail, giving compliments and words of thanks to the winner.

The initiative started out as a monthly award and it was decided to change it to a quarterly award instead, to allow for a sufficient intake of nominations, adds Samuels.

Previous recipients of the award are Thersia Adams (Marketing Department) in May, Nicole Arendse, (Entrepreneurship Department) in June and Kerotse Mogorosi (Ophthalmic Sciences Department) in the third term.

“For the students, Morogosi facilitates letters of request for extended stays in residence, letters of recommendations to employers as well as other universities for our graduate students,” says the department’s head, Prof Peter Clarke-Farr.
