LEADERSHIP: Prof Godfrey Netswera is the new Assistant Dean for Research in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences

Driving research is top on the agenda of Prof Godfrey Netswera.

Netswera has been appointed as the new Assistant Dean for Research in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.

Netswera, who holds a doctoral degree in Sociology of Development, joined the university in March 2017. He comes highly qualified and has extensive experience as a researcher and research manager.

He is the former Director of the South African BRICS Think Tank, where he was responsible for initiating, managing and coordinating all activities related to the Think Tank.

Before heading the BRICS initiative, Netswera was the Director of the Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership, which is a hybrid of a business school and a school of postgraduate studies of the University of Limpopo.

Netswera says he is passionate about developing a cadre of future researchers who will catapult the South African research agenda into a highly competitive first world order.

“When I leave this place I would love to see the majority of staff members in my faculty holding doctoral qualifications, having evolved into associate and full professors who are fully engaged in their various research endeavours,” he says.

“Research output should be tripled by encouraging postgraduate students to publish from their dissertations.”

This year, he was appointed onto the board of one of Johannesburg’s waste management service provider – Pikitup.
