INDUCTED: Some of the new staff members who were recently welcomed to CPUT by the university’s management on the Bellville Campus

CPUT recently welcomed new staff members at an induction programme held on the Bellville Campus, which was facilitated by the Learning and Development Unit of the Human Capital Department.

Mike du Plessis, head of the Centre for Professional and Personal Development (CPPD), welcomed the new members and told them he had been at CPUT for many decades and that employees are supported by the executive to reach their full potential.

“Make the best of your time at CPUT,” said the man who manages the offering of accredited short courses.

Du Plessis added that the short courses are developed by academics who after obtaining approval from their respective faculties approach the CPPD.

“We then register the course on our ITS system and can start accepting students for it.”

The CPPD considers proposals from external training providers for strategic partnership with it to offer certain short courses.

Research Director, Prof Dina Burger, said research is everyone’s business and that she is committed to work with academics’ careers.

Burger said her directorate supports researchers throughout their career trajectory and that CPUT has 38 NRF-rated researchers.

“The Department of Higher Education and Training Subsidized Output has been in an upward trajectory since 2008,” she said.

Dr Revel Iyer, Technology Transfer Office Director, told the group that he wants research solutions that address a specific problem either in industry or the community.

The new employees were addressed by Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr John Volmink, other members of the Executive Management as well as Faculty Deans and directors of strategic departments.
