A week of institutional celebrations

WINNING SOUNDS: Voices of Harmony took home first prize at the first ever choir festival held at CPUT

Everything is set for the installation of CPUT’s new Chancellor Thandi Modise on 14 September.

Modise, chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), is the university’s second Chancellor. She follows in the footsteps of former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel, who served the university for two consecutive four-year terms. His last term ended last year.

Several institutional events will take place in the week 12 – 15 September, which is being billed as Chancellor’s Week. They include the university’s very first Research Festival and an inaugural lecture delivered by Prof Victoria Jideani.

The week will culminate in the Spring Graduation ceremonies on Friday, 15 September.

Modise was first elected as an MP in 1994 and served as Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature from 2004 to 2009. She then served as Premier of the North West from 2010 to 2014, when she was elected as chairperson of the NCOP. She had already assumed some of her duties as Chancellor when she officiated over the Autumn Graduation in April of this year.
