Exploring Africanness

Main Image: PROUDLY AFRICAN: Members of the audience were invited to mark their cities of birth on a huge African map using drawing pins.

Africa Day was recently celebrated on CPUT campuses to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity.

This year, CPUT celebrated Africa Day in style under the theme “Celebrating Africanness” with activations on the District Six and Bellville campuses confined to the lunch-hour in a bid not to disrupt examinations.

Activities included traditional dancing, poetry, drumming and interaction with MCs around the concept of Africanness.

Traditional dancers also visited the Mowbray and Granger Bay campuses while a huge travelling poster of Africa visited all the university’s campuses and international students were invited to place a pin on it to show us where their home town is situated.

JAMBOREE: Traditional Dancers, drummers and poets entertained the crowd during the Africa Day celebrations on the Bellville Campus.

PAINTED: Traditional face painting was available during this year’s CPUT Africa Day celebrations on the Bellville Campus.
