Record number of visitors at Open Day

A record number of visitors turned up at the annual CPUT Open Day that took place at the Bellville campus.

More than 13 000 visitors attended the event, some coming from as far as Piketberg, Ceres and Mossel Bay.

And visitors were not disappointed, with CPUT departments going all out to market the university’s 70 career options.

“It was a great experience,” says Simamkele Fosi, a Grade 10 learner at Manzomthombo Senior Secondary School in Mfuleni.

“I found out about a lot of careers I didn’t even know existed such as the exciting food sciences,” says Simamkele.

Tarryn Kahn, a Grade 12 learner at Wittebome High School in Wynberg, says everyone manning the stalls was friendly and very informative.

Among those visiting the Mechanical Engineering Department was Zanzan Hendricks, a Grade 12 learner at BellvilleTechnical High School.

Zanzan says during the visit he obtained answers to career questions he had been grappling with for a while.

Marilyn Cloete, Student Recruitment Officer at CPUT says the event was a huge success and thanked all the departments for their hard work.

“Our exhibitors did a sterling job of promoting the institution,” says Cloete.
