Motivated by its resolve to become a great institution, CPUT is expanding its strategic partnerships with key tertiary institutions in the continent.

The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) to pave the way for the exchange of staff and students between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony was held at the Granger Bay Campus and was witnessed by officials from the National Department of Tourism (NDT).

“The partnership talks to the development of the two nations,” says Mandisa Silo, Head of  the School of Sport, Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management (SETH).

“This MoU is in line with our strategy of moving from good to great. The school of SETH believes that it achieves this by doing the extraordinary and the partnership with STA, an institution in a world renowned tourism destination is testimony to this.”

Peter Moncherry, Manager of Hotel D’ Application at STA, says the initiative started three years ago when the STA and the Seychelles Tourism Board visited South Africa on a fact finding mission after they were invited by the NDT.

“As a result of this MoU, students from CPUT and STA will become the beneficiaries of a free exchange of management staff and also of ideas and activities as well as a facilitation of placements for students in renowned institutions and hotels to enable them to gain valuable work experience,” says Moncherry.

Prof Shakes Binza, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, says CPUT was the first South African institution to sign an MoU with the STA.
