Lessons from pizza gurus

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Bonnie Cooper (CEO of Blue Planet Design advertising agency and Chief Marketing Officer of Roman’s Pizza) presented a guest lecture on Roman’s Pizza’s marketing strategies at the Cape Town Campus

Marketing students were made aware of the value of ploughing back to society during a guest lecture on Roman’s Pizza’s marketing strategies.

Bonnie Cooper, CEO of Blue Planet Design advertising agency and Chief Marketing Officer of Roman’s Pizza, gave the lecture to the second year and BTech students at the Cape Town Campus recently.

Cooper says Roman’s Pizza donates 10% of their total marketing budget to charity every year and that each one of 200 Roman’s Pizza stores are also obliged to spend 1% of their total turnover on direct community engagement, for example by giving to safe houses, orphanages, churches, schools, tuck-shops and universities.

Roman’s Pizza recently gave a children’s care organisation, Matla a Bana, R1 million which will be used to open more child-friendly facilities around South Africa.

Cooper gave a detailed explanation of how Roman’s Pizza uses digital marketing strategies, such as Google AdWords and social media, and how one needs to stay abreast of changes in the digital media arena.

The presentation was well received by the 100 Marketing students and Marketing Department staff who each received a R50 Roman’s Pizza voucher.
